Indian Knowledge Systems and Modern Education: Towards a Transformative Educational Framework for Viksit Bharat

Abstract: Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) represent a vast and dynamic repository of indigenous knowledge developed over millennia within the diverse cultural and intellectual traditions of India. Encompassing domains such as philosophy, science, mathematics, medicine, agriculture, and the arts, IKS are rooted in classical texts, oral traditions, and experiential practices. This study explores the integration of IKS into modern education as a pathway toward building a transformative educational framework aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat.

Adopting a qualitative research design based on systematic document analysis, the study draws on secondary sources including books, peerreviewed journals, and policy documents. The findings indicate that IKS significantly contributes to holistic development, ethical consciousness, sustainability, and cultural identity. However, the study identifies critical gaps in implementation, including a lack of empirical validation, curriculum standardization, and teacher preparedness. The paper concludes that effective integration of IKS can support the development of a value-based, inclusive, and sustainable education system in India.
