Integrating ICT Tools to Enhance Reading, Writing, and Vocabulary Skills among Upper Primary School Students

Abstract: The present study focuses on the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools to enhance reading, writing, and vocabulary skills among upper primary school students. In the present educational scenario, digital technology has become an important support system for classroom teaching and learning. Traditional language teaching methods often fail to engage students actively, especially at the upper primary level where learners require motivation, interaction, and exposure to varied learning resources. ICT tools such as educational videos, digital storybooks, language learning applications, interactive worksheets, and online dictionaries provide rich learning experiences and make language learning more interesting and meaningful. This study aims to explore how ICT-based teaching practices support the development of basic language skills. The study is based on secondary data collected from books, research articles, educational reports, and previous studies related to ICT and language learning. The findings from earlier research indicate that the use of ICT improves students’ reading comprehension by providing visual and audio support, enhances writing skills through guided digital activities, and strengthens vocabulary learning through repeated exposure and practice. ICT tools also help students learn at their own pace and encourage active participation in the classroom. The study highlights that ICT-based learning creates a learner-friendly environment, reduces fear of language learning, and increases students’ interest and confidence. Teachers also benefit by using innovative teaching strategies and accessing diverse teaching materials. The study concludes that the integration of ICT tools at the upper primary level plays a significant role in improving reading, writing, and vocabulary skills. Proper training of teachers, availability of digital infrastructure, and planned use of ICT can further strengthen language learning outcomes. This study emphasizes the need to adopt ICT as a supportive tool to improve the overall quality of language education at the upper primary stage.
